How can we best prepare our children for the future?
There is a fine line between living in the present and preparing our children for the future because we really have to do both.
Living in the present is the best thing we can do for each other and our families. Living in the present takes training but is possible and I think children help make it possible. When is the last time you were spending time with your kids or nieces or nephews or otherwise, playing, taking care of them etc, and you weren't in the present? It doesn't happen much for me and I am thankful because this time I use is of great value to all of us. I am still learning, but the rest of my time is full of worrying and planning and un-presentness. (that should be a word)
Preparing our children for the future is also right up there with most important things to do. Children don't learn by themselves (at first) they learn from experience and teaching. We are our children's first teacher. We are doctors, nurses, teachers, chefs, the list goes on but the most important is teacher. We are the guide. Children need to know discipline, stability, love. First and foremost this should come from the parents. I am sad, scared, even angry at the horror stories I hear, they happen everyday. Even though we may not always be able to physically be there, hopefully our children will know, remember, and use the information they get from their most important source. I can only hope more parents can take on the difficult but very beneficial task to raise strong, smart children in the 21st century.
